Part 1 of 3 of a serial series (needs to be read in order)
Be warned: This books ends with a cliffhanger.

Hardened by her damaged past, Alice Bennett has no desire for any type of relationship and easily dismisses the warnings about her handsome, but extremely difficult, temporary boss. She is determined to do her job, and do it well. She needs this job, and the references that come from working at a prestigious law firm.

But the moment she lays eyes on him, Alice’s determination waivers as unexpected desires stir inside her – even as he barks orders about her choice of lunch.

Dylan Marshall is the best lawyer in the city and knows exactly what he wants, and how he wants it done. As the senior partner at his prominent law firm, he expects the people working for him to do what they’re told. Discouraged by the string of incompetent temps, he has low expectations for anyone new the agency sends his way.

But the latest temporary assistant is anything but incompetent, and Dylan discovers he wants to know more about her, and intimately. Especially when she stands her ground and questions his orders. Suddenly, this domineering boss learns he prefers a woman to be his equal.

Content warning: Adult language and situations, plus some very hot explicit love scenes.

This was me last night! The hand for my kindle felt frozen.

Reblogged from WhiskeyintheJar Romance:

Great beginning to the series.

Keep Me Safe: A Slow Burn Novel (Slow Burn Novels) - Maya Banks

This was my first book by Maya Banks. I've heard her name for years, but I've just not picked up a book. Keep Me Safe was what I needed to read, I just didn't know it. I was sucked in from the beginning with the suspenseful plot. I had to know how Ramie was going to catch the serial killer who was stalking her.

She turns to a family that she helped in the past. Tori, the youngest of the crew, was someone Ramie helped with her psychic abilities. Ramie is able to take an item from a victim and go into their head to find them. However, when she does this, she goes through what they are. Rape, beatings, etc.

I was surprised by the fact that Tori and two of her brothers had an issue with their protection agency helping Ramie. After all, she saved Tori's life. When Caleb, the hero of the story, helps her to get away and catch the stalker/serial killer, I was kinda ashamed of his siblings. How they couldn't be more thankful toward Ramie. Without her, Tori would have been dead. But this angst between them all does add to the plot some.

Since this is my first Maya Banks book, I'm not fully familiar with her writing style. With that being said, if you're a big romance reader like myself, don't go into this book looking for romance, but more of the suspense. I see it's categorized as a romantic suspense on Amazon, but the romance part is lacking. Yes, there is kissing and sex between Ramie and Caleb. What fell short for me, was the chemistry. It seemed like they just got together, never any attraction. I never knew either was interested in one another until they went to bed together. But as I said, this may be the genre.

The suspense/thriller is what makes this book. For that reason alone, I loved it. I want to read the rest of the series, as well as more by this author.

Thought Provoking Read

When I Dream Of You - Rosa Sophia

This is my first book by Rosa Sophia. I'm glad I finally had the chance to sit and read one of her stories.

This story is packed full of so much emotion. Nina has had such a life. It's not one I'd wish on anyone. Between rape and an abusive mother, I just wanted to hug Nina and keep her safe from the world.

She's lost and looking for her place in the world. Currently, she's stuck but knows something has to change or her life will never get better. She meets Wes one day when she's running a marathon and they both feel like they know each other already.

I'd like to note, that this isn't your typical romance. There isn't scene after scene of flirting, kisses, and dates. But there is still a romance there between Wes and Nina. Wes is a patient man and just what Nina needs.

Through the story she grows and begins to feel more comfortable in her skin. I enjoyed the way this story wrapped up, and hope to read more from Rosa Sophia soon.

SPOILER ALERT!

Sad ending, but expected

The Proposition 5: The Ferro Family (The Proposition: The Ferro Family) - H.M. Ward

I think going into book 5, I knew what was going to happen. A part of me hoped for a miracle. Perhaps the way it happened was more shocking.

I want to know where is Hallie is now. I know she's Bryan's girl, but I'd love if the author wrote more about Hallie. She deserves happiness after such a rough life.

A great serial series. I really enjoyed it.

Good start

The Proposition: The Ferro Family - H.M. Ward

I'm a big HM Ward fan. Now that her books are on Kindle Unlimited, I can actually devour her series at a reasonable price. :)

I enjoyed the start of this series. It didn't start out fast paced like her other stuff. This one starts off on a sad note with lots and lots of back story. Hallie is with a man named Neil - the dependable guy. Though, he did something kinda questioning in this story, so I'm curious where this is going.

This is Bryan Ferro's series, and right now, I don't really like him. I liked him in The Arrangement Series. I'm sure he'll win me over in book 2. :)

The writing was good, as HM is an excellent writer. She's one of the only writers I can stand to read in present tense. I prefer my books in past tense, but when I read hers, I don't really catch that I'm in present tense.

On to book 2. :) Yay that there is only 5 in this one.

Reading progress update: I've read 34%.

Slow Hand (Hot Cowboy Nights) - Victoria Vane

Enjoying this one so far. :)

Even better than the first...if that's possible.

Lust (The Devil and the Diamond Book 2) - Bonnie Bliss

I loved book 1 in the series, but I really loved book 2. It was such a whirlwind. Elizabeth has two men in this one, and I could never tell who I was rooting for her to wind up with - Jared or Asmodeus.

Jared is the sweet, protective guy, while Asmodeus is well, Asmodeus - the hot sexy and dangerous guy.

I found myself unable to put the story down and had to find out what happens. I think the heroine Elizabeth was just as confused as I was about her feelings. The book ends with a cliffhanger and a big one at that. I was left staring at the screen for a few minutes, needing to know what was going to happen next.

Bonnie Bliss did a wonderful job. The writing flowed well, the descriptions were excellent, and the sex was hot! I am so ready for book 3!

A Heartwarming Read

A Saint's Salvation - Beverly Ovalle

A Saint's Salvation by Beverly Ovalle was a sweet and heartwarming read. Nick is leaving the marine's for the time being and going home for the holidays to surprise his family. The one thing he is looking for is for someone to simply hold him.

When he left for the marines, he had a girlfriend. Not long after she sent him a note breaking up with him, a grenade went off where he was, injuring him and several others. After he recovered in a hospital, the desire to be with family is strong.

This story tells the journey Nick has on his way home. He is able to find love again, and it's with someone who understands everything he has been through. I can't tell much, because this is a novella, and sometimes they are harder to review without giving away too much plot.

The story line was detailed and well thought out. The writing was good. Ms. Ovalle did a wonderful job with marine lingo, and the way events would play out. She was detailed and it made for a heartfelt story.

There was an intimate scene in the story, but it wasn't over the top detailed, so I'd give this a heat level of 3. I think it was perfect though for the story.

I'd recommend this book to friends.

Find this book on Amazon.

Sizzling Hot!

The Intern, Volume 2 - Brooke Cumberland

Part 2 really stepped up in the heat! Whew! I liked that it picked up where book 1 left off. I saw a side of Bentley I wasn't expecting. Total dominant, alpha radiating off him and Ceci took it without a problem.

This was fast paced and I read it in one sitting--mainly because I was curious and couldn't put it down.

The only thing that caught my attention and I would've liked to see explained a little more was how Ceci is able to spend the night at his place on more than one occasion and days in a row without her mom knowing. Maybe this will be answered a little more in part 3, that I will be reading very soon.

I'm curious where the plot is going. And of course, it ended with a cliffhanger... :)
